If you are here, thank you! I decided to start this blog to share my travels as a CI-Borg (cochlear implant user) and there might be some lifestyle posts as well with me talking about my life as a CI-Borg in general. I love to travel, not only getting to see cool places and do awesome things but also to immerse myself into different cultures. Being a CI-Borg offers a completely different perspective on life and I’m excited to be able to share my perspectives with everyone. The stories I am going to share not only highlights my travels but also my life adventures. Naturally, everyone tackles life differently depending on their situations and I only hope to inspire in at least a small way to not only other CI-Borgs but everyone. I view my hearing loss as an opportunity, not a disability. What I mean by that is that I choose to look at it as an opportunity to show others they can do whatever they set their minds to, no matter their situation. I strive to live as normal as a life as I can… yes, there are challenges along the way but I hit them head on.
I was born with an illness and the things they did to save my life made me lose my hearing. My parents were determined to give me the opportunity to hear and live my life as normal as possible. With that being said, they did a lot of research and decided to get me a cochlear implant despite it’s newness and controversies surrounding it. I was implanted in my right ear at age 2 and that internal device is still going strong almost 30 years later! After many years of speech therapy and building the hearing strengths up; I was able to do things like join the band to play saxophone; go to college and grad school; and find my love of travel! In 2019, I decided to get my left ear implanted to help continue strengthening my overall hearing experience and I’ll be sharing more about that journey as I build out this blog.
I have always been interested in the world and what it has to offer. I had never traveled abroad (unless you count a cruise to the Caribbean when I was younger) until 2015 when I was in college at Mississippi State and had the opportunity to travel with the College of Business to Prague and Budapest for 2 weeks. That experience really opened my eyes and heart to one of the things I am truly passionate about….TRAVEL! Since then, I got my International MBA and lived in the United Kingdom for a few months while working on part of my masters program. My passion for travel and sharing those adventures with other is going strong.
I am super fortunate and blessed to be able to have the life I have and do not take it for granted and I look forward to what new adventures are to come. I can’t wait to bring everyone along.
